New anti-microbial enamel surface with silver ions

For standard enamel boards, regular cleaning of non-porous, smooth, easily washable surfaces offers a first answer. But what happens between 2 cleanings? Bacteria remain and can proliferate.
SILVER ION TECHNOLOGY
In its metallic form, silver is inert and does not kill bacteria. Silver (Ag) atoms must lose an electron and become positively charged Ag+. Silver ionizes in the air but especially in a humid environment. Silver ions affect multiple sites in bacterial cells ensuring their destruction. Silver ions cause damage to the cell wall and then, inside the cell, they bind to proteins and interfere with energy production, enzymatic function and cell replication. Silver ions are active on a broad spectrum of bacteria.
PROVEN RESULTS
PolyVision hygienic surfaces are anti-microbial and have been tested according to ISO 22196:2011 by a third party laboratory. Results showed a reduction of over 99% of the bacteria tested in 24 hours.
Further tests, conducted by certified laboratories in Germany on other products incorporating the silver in PolyVision's hygienic surfaces, have concluded that the technology is effective against enveloped viruses. The family of enveloped viruses includes, for example, the current coronavirus (SARS-Cov-2), SARS (SARS-Cov), MERS (MERS-CoV) and Influenza A.
